In response to numerous questions and concerns regarding the investigation, RMI released a letter to key customers, vendors and business partners. The one-page letter explains that the investigation is limited in scope and that the government is working with RMI to minimize disruptions to the operation, as evidenced by the quick return of key documents and operational software. Here are some excerpts from the letter:
Thank you for your commitment to Rocky Mountain Instrument (RMI). Recently, local federal authorities initiated a review of RMI’s export control procedures. As many of you know, U.S. export controls are an important part of our national security. Given the importance of these rules and your importance to us as customers, we wanted to keep you fully informed. We are devoted to continuing our high quality operations, fulfilling all of our commitments, and working to further enhance our compliance programs and control processes.
Rocky Mountain Instrument is cooperating fully with the investigation. We are confident that careful review will resolve any outstanding questions. All parties are committed to returning RMI to full operations, as evidenced by the expeditious return of key documents, data and operations software.
We have assembled a team of legal experts to guide us through the process and to assist us in addressing the government’s concerns and the company’s compliance with relevant export regulations. With the help of these experts, we are proactively improving compliance measures to address and even exceed government requirements. We are committed to responding in a way consistent with RMI’s 50-year record of sound business conduct, a record that has earned us respect throughout the optics industry and beyond. Our success has depended upon our ability to continually improve, always motivated to do the right thing for our employees and customers.
