Opto-Mech Project Assistant

Rocky Mountain Instrument Co is looking for a coordinator for our Opto-Mechanical team of engineers. This person would be an organized professional with limited technical capability. The ideal candidate will have the ability to keep up with deadlines and want to help our close-knit engineers be their best. 

The best candidate will have a technical aptitude, strong organizational skills, communicate clearly, be able to collect and process information, show leadership and drive, be a team member, and be focused on results. This position handles a high volume of very detailed technical data which must be accurately processed. 

Responsibilities Include:

  • Develops project plans specifying goals, strategy, staffing, scheduling, identification of risks, contingency plans, and allocation of available resources.

  • Formulates and defines technical scope and objectives of project.

  • Coordinates assignments of project personnel.

  • Coordinates recruitment or assignment of project personnel including assignment of duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority.

  • Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within budget.

  • Establishes standards and procedures for project reporting and documentation.

  • Reviews status reports prepared by project personnel and modifies schedules and plans as required.

  • Prepares project status reports and keeps management, clients, and others informed of project status and related issues.

  • Meets with project personnel to provide technical advice and resolve problems.

*Educational Requirement is High School Diploma or higher. 

*Exposure to sales management, vendor interaction, or project management a plus.

Opto-Mechanical (OM) Engineer 

Rocky Mountain Instrument, Co. (RMI) is looking for a motivated OM Engineer. The position is responsible for planning and directing all aspects of assigned mechanical engineering projects within the Engineering Department. An OM Engineer interacts with peers, outside vendors and clients to execute all technical engineering aspects to achieve functionality, quality, cost and schedule. The Opto-Mechanical team works as part of an in-house multi-disciplinary technical unit that supplies design, analysis and consulting services. A higher level of Physics is required.

Requirements and Responsibilities

  • Work as an OM Designer along with the Engineering Manager to develop project schedules and prioritize project related tasks

  • Design optical mechanical systems, structures and components

  • Assist with modifications to existing equipment, systems, structures and components

  • Assist with feasibility study and technical quotes for systems, structures and components

  • Ensure compliance with safety standards related to optical and mechanical systems, structures and Components

  • Responsible for engineering design reviews, ensuring fit, function and accuracy of engineering applied to RMI’s internal capabilities. 

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Optical or Mechanical Engineering or related field.

  • 2 years of work experience, preferably in a field related to machine design, manufacturing or maintenance; optical industry experience is preferred.

  • Very strong project management and negotiating skills including abilities in project accountability, reporting and cost management

  • Ability to handle multiple project activities simultaneously, coordinate and interact with multiple company departments and outside companies

FQC Technician

Rocky Mountain Instrument, Co is searching for someone who wants to work with optics. They would be the one who tests and inspects products at various stages of production process and compiles and evaluates statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities: 

  • Interprets engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confers with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.

  • Selects products for tests at specified stages in production process, and tests products for variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance, and mechanical, electrical, or chemical characteristics.

  • Records test data, applying statistical quality control procedures.

  • Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.

  • Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.

  • Sets up and performs destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts, or products to measure performance, life, or material characteristics.

  • Prepares graphs or charts of data or enters data into computer for analysis.

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
